And the new Interior of the it is a winning combination of comfort and style, giving you a taste of what you can expect once you start the engine. Active safety features like the Electronic Stability Program, anti-lock brakes and ASR Traction Control help you avoid a collision. Optional bi-Xenon headlamps light your way with light so bright that it's been likened to daylight. Finally, all four outboard seatbelts are equipped with emergency tensioning retractors and belt force limiters, and the rear seat belts are height adjustable to help keep passengers of all sizes safe.

A cloth soft top, in multiple layers draped over an aluminum frame, quickly tucks beneath a metal bonnet by motorized means. With the top down, 2012 Mercedes SLK-Class look slick and aggressive as the bonnet shows nacelle blisters trailing behind rear seatbacks like ones once worn by vintage race cars. Also posed behind rear seatbacks are loop-like roll bars that can pop up instantly if on-board motion sensors detect potential roll-over movement. It is controlled by a one-touch switch mounted on the console, but it also operates remotely from a button on the key fob. Wheelbase stretches an inch longer and the length runs 2.4 inches greater, while the width grows by more than half an inch and the height rises by 1.6 inches. Steering mechanism switches to a direct and responsive rack and pinion system, and there are devices aboard to stabilize forward movement and tire traction, plus smart brakes with anti-lock control system (ABS) and multiple air bags to cushion the human cargo including new seat-mounted air bags for shielding head and thorax regions of riders in the two front seats.

Driving dynamics have been greatly enhanced in the new 2012 Mercedes SLK-Class. The front suspension is now a four-link setup instead of the previous double wishbone. Two separate links take over from the lower wishbone and provide better axle kinematics and more precise location of the wheels. Other components include coil springs and single-tube shocks and a stabilizer bar. Still to be found at the rear axle is the familiar multi-link system, but now aluminum replaces the steel previously used, saving over 30% of the system's weight. Newly designed, the dash panel is aesthetically and ergonomically more appealing. Chrome and wood accents provide an upscale look to the wide-ranging practicality of the controls and dials. New elements for improved comfort include soft nightlight illumination throughout the cabin, an improved climate control system (four-zone climate control is also available), and electrically adjustable seating with optional multicontour and dynamic multicontour systems.
